Graduation: a new start, no longer a student, working life

I had my commencement (convocation) on last Friday, July 6, 2012.
For me, it's a new start, it marks that I'm no longer a student. Some people may feel that there's no point going to the commencement ceremony, sitting for 2 hours in the hall.

In fact, it was just a short 2 minutes walking on the stage receiving the degree scroll and taking photo. It might seem insignificant for some people, but for me it was indeed meaningful. My feeling was mixed, abundantly happy yet a bit nervous. I was also enjoying the photo sessions with my family, my fellow Accountancy graduate, as well as my friends who were coming for my commencement. I felt very blessed to have so many people beside me supporting me.

Honestly, I didn't expect there would be many people who come to visit my graduation day, since the timing is on Friday morning where some people need to work. Even so, I felt great both of my parents could come to share this special moment with me. Apparently, I had two friends who took leave and purposely come to my graduation; one of them even was attending the whole ceremony. Furthermore, I didn't expect anyone would give me any presents except my parents coz they said they would buy me the bear..hahaha. I was really happy to see many people, and was so touch to receive so many gifts, even just a card. I think I'm too easy to be happy (in the same time easy to be sad)

At the night, I attended the commencement dinner (though at the beginning I didn't plan to but my parents asked me to just go). Though actually I am not very close with BBA and my hons BAC people (coz the one close with me either not going or already graduated last year), I still go. This is how life is, you can't always stay in your comfort zone and your limited friends zone, but to try to mingle around and network with more people. At the end, I indeed enjoyed the event and felt that I actually have other friends as well.

The day after, I had OBS event, part of my 1-month Graduate Executive Programme in my company. Although I had been not enough sleep for a week and I was super tired, I enjoyed this outdoor training, "climbing". I had fun with my new friends in DBS.

I have started my working life, but I am having a one-month training which includes class-room training in SMU, orientation in the office, and OBS training, and our commencement lunch n CSR project.

I'm looking forward........

Tiring day - viewing experience

Viewing is tiring...

Today I went to view 1 unit accompanying Christina and 4 unit alone for myself coz Christina happened to have early appointment with her friends.
1. Kallang (Christina's one)- wah this one nice and clean, no owner staying, owner very nice, very good price and super near MRT, even the agent quite friendly. I'm happy to hear that she is taking this room though it's not my room even. My mood was good after viewing this first one.

2. Tiong Bahru - only 1 bus stop from MRT, this is the first one the agent bring me to the unit, in fact it's without aircond, room very small, even the mattress must buy myself, no study table and cupboard, with family staying, owner dun allow even light cooking - $750. NO

3. Tiong Bahru - second unit that the agent brought me. This one not bad, 2 bust stop from MRT, pretty spacious, owner is 50+ lady Chinese Indo (well, though she nice somehow i scared of her abit) and another tenant is Malaysian Chinese, light cooking allowed, queen size bed room, allow visitor, but her one restriction 8hours air-cond per day (not because of the bills, but rather scared break down) - $900 - considering

4. Tiong Bahru - third unit the agent brought me. One word: SCARY. Everything wasn't smooth start from the beginning. The agent just told me when I reached there that there's a dog there, then I faster say No.. But she then said alr make appointment, so ask me to help her give face. Alright no problem as she thought and said to me it's just small dog. When we reached there, we  were late coz we spent too much time at the previous unit's owner.
OMG... the owner's agent red face with his huge body, wah super scary, he scolded my agent. I even said sorry to that guy coz I felt bad for my agent. Furthermore, when reached the unit, wah the dog super scary!!!! barking loudly non stop. I even didn't dare to see the room as I needed to passed that dog which was carried by the owner.  After that, that owner's agent scolded my agent again saying why didn't tell me in advance and just wasted his time.
This really made me feel sorry for my agent (though it's not my fault I guess), but that agent was really really bad. He made my mood down seriously. Especially I am pretty tired already.

5. Tiong Bahru - this unit is quite nice, newly renovated with all tenant, no owner but the owner super nice, weekly maid, living room pretty spacious and nice, but the bustop bit far from the unit, room is just decent, and also 1 stop from the mrt. The minus point is that I guess bit too expensive for me and there would be a boy (uni student) would be staying starting August in another room - $950

coz of time constraint, too packed viewing, I got to skipped dinner..

Actually, before today I have viewed another two unit.
One was at Aljuneid when I thought my working place would be at east area.. ups, who knows just two days ago my company told me of my new location which actually is better coz more central..haha. So, though I quite like that but I can't take that anymore, too far from  the office.

Yesterday was at Queenstown, hmmm the room is small, not that super small actually, owner is young couple, but no cooking, no visitor at all, but area very good, in front of the block got fairprice, convenience store, and small 'shopping mall', very near bus stop, 1 stop from queenstown or red hill mrt. hmmmm..i dunno, no feel. - $750

All and all...
I somehow feel I have nothing and lonely in Singapore, pretty sad actually. I really wish I have own family and own house here.
And one more thing, I guess being an agent is not entirely nice job which I thought earlier, just making a call, view here and there and get big commission; but I guess now it's pretty tiring job too.

Not sure when this will end. Should I just anyhow choose or beg to stay with friends or uncle auntie? hmmmm...

Gawad Kalinga Advocacy: Reaching out to students in JC!

Today I and my CP team went down to Victoria JC to participate in OCIP Fair there representing Gawad Kalinga, the organisation we are working on.

Started with setting up all the exhibition materials for our booths, pasted all the posters and pictures and did some deco.

Continued with eating a super cheap yet tastes nice lunch; $1.50 for my meal, Bak Chor Mee.

And... our exhibition started... It didn't seem very crowded at the beginning, but after the OCIP talk and all the JC1 student came out and started approaching us, here's our show time. haha

It's indeed a wonderful experience, though it's pretty exhausted coz we talked non-stop for some time. But...I just feel very happy when someone came to us and wanted to know more about us. Some of them that I talked to were really interested on what I said, they really listened to my story about GK. It's awesome when someone initiated to sign up with us to get the follow up from us, watch the video we did. Imagine how you can make a difference, even just by talking shortly to somebody that you don't know, how you can help the poor by talking to them, and how you can contribute to community.

Check out our video: It's our experience when we went to The Philippines for immersion program 5th-9th December 2011.

On a side note, looking at students wearing JC uniform, it reminded me to my high school life...haha

Welcoming Dragon Year - CNY 2012

This year I was spending the CNY in Singapore, unlike the previous year.

My aunt from my dad's side picked me to have a steamboat dinner at her mother's in law house in Achorpoint, queenstown.

The next day, my aunt from my mom's side came to Singapore and we stayed at Festive Hotel in Resort World Sentosa. We had CNY-eve dinner at OSIA, an Australian Restaurant in RWS. This restaurant is nice enough to let us bring the Yusheng from other restaurant, do the prosperity toss, and make some dirt on the table because they never sell it. The food looks great and the taste is delicious.

After that we went to the Casino in RWS. I was only playing small amount, I stopped playing once my amount was breakeven, most importantly was not making loss during CNY

The next day, I went to my far relative from my great grand father - but still same surname to bai bai. We are not very close as per say, but they are really nice and always welcome us.
I was planning to just bai bai to this family and went back, but couldn't find excuse to go home. I ended up went for family gathering lunch, and my uncle's god brother family gathering dinner. Last thing to do was gambling for fun. They said, they have tradition to play this during CNY, of coz we only bet small amount from 10c-$10 per bet. Started by losing money consecutively, but finaly I made little bit money from here. yay! I oso got hong bao...hahaha..

The last day of CNY, I felt bit tired coz of the tiring consecutive days, always slept late. The only thing I did were two cooking-session with friends (lunch and dinner) + long sleep, feeling bit unwell now...

Happy Chinese New Year, World! Let's welcome this dragon year with smile. Hope for a prosperity, luck, and happiness.

12 stops, Exciting Travelling Nov 2011-Jan 2012

12 stops from Nov 2011 till Jan 2012 calender : Singapore - Jakarta - Singapore - The Philippines - Singapore - Kuala Lumpur (transit) - Korea (Seoul and the land) - Kuala Lumpur (transit) - Jakarta - Jambi - Jakarta - Singapore

It's exciting December for me. Lots of travelling, meaningful and touching experience, happy moment, but tiring...

Finished exam on Nov 16, I was busy with preparing a 'run event' for my CP, though regretfully it was cancelled due to no permission.

Hence I decided to go back Jakarta for 2 weeks before returning to Singapore on Dec 5 for job interview and preparation for the trip to The Philippines on Dec 8. I was not going for holiday in The Philippines, but it was for my CP work. Well, at least this expense was borne by school. It started as a 'work', but when I experienced staying and living with the villagers in GK Enchanted Farm, it turned to be a meaningful trip. Only had 5 days there though and I went back to Singapore on Dec 13.

On Dec 16, I went to Korea with Christina, Wilson, and Winong. The scenery there is really beautiful, oohhh Winter Korea. Well, we had a chance to go many tourism places: Dongdaemun, Off Temple - Daegwallyeong Sheep Ranch, Seorak National Park, Bronze Buddha Sinheungsa uniform - big red fishing harbor fishing pier lighthouse, Big East China Sea catch large fish market - hot water in the world, Yongpyong ski resort (including ski snow shoes + sled), Everland - Namsan Park - Myeong-dong, seaweed Museum + hanbok - Korean souvenirs, Cheonggyecheon - Blue House - National Folk Museum - Korea Ginseng shop - Cosmetics, Insa-dong, and some other places which I didn't remember the name.
Indeed happy have a chance to travel there during winter. But, unfortunately, I got allergic with the cold weather and got sick during the trip.

From Korea, I went back to Jakarta on Dec 23 and caught up to celebrate Christmas with family. Nothing much actually, we just went to church together, ate together, spent time and chit chat together, watched drama etc. But one special thing that I was busy of during my stay at home was I was planning my parents Silver Wedding Anniversary for this upcoming Jan 11. Pretty sad that I would not be there sharing this special moment due to one and another thing in Singapore. But lazy me started the work bit late,so rush here and there and slept late for the last 4 days. I designed the invitation card, made the card for them, made a video containing their photos and our family photos as surprise, and made the guide book for the mass.

Of course I still do my CP work at home. Even I had once skype meeting with my CP-mates and the organisation I'm working with. I still need to edit the video for my CP work also and do some proposal etc... I wanted to go back Singapore to start the CP, but I needed to go Jambi to pray for my grandpa 100days passed away. I went to Jambi on Jan 5 and back on Jan 7. It was like a reunion also, one from Singapore, two from Jakarta, others from Jambi.

Then I went back to Singapore on Jan 8. The taxi auntie is very nice, chit chat with her...But upss, new taxi fare...

Today, I am cleaning my room...super tired. Luckily I have so many nice friends, helped me to carry lot of my luggage.
School start soon. But I still need to 'moving and unpacking', shopping some daily stuff, went off to sign contract, went for some recruitment stuff, CP meetings and work, friend's coming this week..and I should start opening IVLE...
